چکیده

The aim of this paper focused on obtaining the optimum cruciform geometry of reinforced magnetorheological elastomers (MRE) to perform homogeneous equibiaxial deformation tests, by using optimization algorithms and Finite Element Method (FEM) simulations. To validate the proposed specimen geometry, a digital image correlation (DIC) system was used to compare experimental result measurements with respect to those of FEM simulations. Moreover, and based on the optimum cruciform geometry, specimens produced from MRE reinforced with carbonyl-iron microparticles or iron nanoparticles were subjected to equibiaxial loading and unloading cycles to examine their Mullin's effect and their residual strain deformations.

A general result for the magnetoelastic response of isotropic suspensions of iron and ferrofluid particles in rubber, with applications to spherical and cylindrical specimens

This paper puts forth an approximate solution for the effective free-energy function describing the homogenized (or macroscopic) magnetoelastic response of magnetorheological elastomers comprised of non-Gaussian rubbers filled with isotropic suspensions of either iron or ferrofluid particles. The solution is general in that it applies to N = 2 and 3 space dimensions and any arbitrary (non-perco...

An experimental investigation of novel hybrid epoxy/glass fibers nanocomposite reinforced with nanoclay with enhanced properties for low velocity impact test

The application of nanoparticles in order to enhance the composites properties has been recently attracted many researchers' attentions. To increase the mechanical and physical properties of the composites, the nanoparticles have no significant effect on the weight and nanostructure of composites. One of the well-known nanoparticles is the Nanoclay (NC) that have been widely used in industries ...

Behavior of magnetorheological elastomers with coated particles

Iron particle coating can improve the behavior of magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) by inhibiting iron particle rusting; however, such a process can change physical properties of MREs such as oxidation resistance, shear modulus, and stiffness change due to an applied magnetic field. In this study, MRE samples are fabricated with regular and polymerized iron particles. To investigate the poss...

Temperature Dependent Dynamic Mechanical Properties of Magnetorheological Elastomers: Experiment and Modeling

Magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) are a group of new smart composite materials which are typically comprised of magnetic particles, non-magnetic matrix, and some additives. Their controllable mechanical properties are dependent on many factors, among which temperature is very important yet lack of understanding due to limited studies. In this paper, a series of experimental studies have been...
